Help Needed! The work goes on. Nine months ago, Hurricane Florence worked her way through areas of Eastern North Carolina creating widespread loss and destruction. Today there are still families living in FEMA trailers, rented spaces, or in the upper living areas of homes considered unsafe. During these next two weeks, there are teams of people helping with the recovery in the Jacksonville area. They will be helping to restore homes like the one of Robin. Robin had no flood insurance – it was not necessary and since the hurricane, her husband died and she has been diagnosed with cancer and undergoing treatment. The volunteers working in her house are doing more than painting walls and installing floors. They are sharing the compassionate love of Jesus and filling her with hope and prayers. Please keep the families, the volunteers, and the work that is taking place over the next two weeks in your prayers. There are at least 10 homes that we hope to get to. These families have been waiting for this moment. Seeking Volunteers For New Bern, NC We also have two weeks where volunteers are needed in New Bern, NC. Currently we have room for 20 for each week, and only have 6 signed up to help. Volunteers will be working to restore at least two homes. Housing has been secured through the Fuller Center Disaster Rebuilders (an arm of Habitat for Humanity). Housing and 3 meals a day for the week is only $125. Ryan Radke will be leading the first week: June 2-8. Don Schaefer will be the point person for the second week: June 16-22. All tools and materials will be provided at the work sites. You can sign up through the SED WEBSITE . When you register, use Ryan or Don’s name as the group leader. I give thanks to your generosity. The gift cards and donations that you provided continue to help support this recovery. Grants from LCMS Disaster Response and NC Hurricane Florence Relief Fund is making this work possible. Thank You! Mission of the Month donations from St. John's Lutheran Church are helping fund this work. Most importantly, the gifts you provided in response to the great need is continuing to provide resources to help families return to their homes. Thank you and for your willingness to keep these displaced families both here and in every area of disaster in prayer.
Always amazing to see the God of life giving new life to seemingly hopeless situations! We're doing the same thing right here in Farmville.
